EECP stands for enhanced external counterpulsation; it is a treatment for angina that is done mechanically. We have a lot of research that suggests that EECP is in a position to reduce the symptoms of angina in these people who are suffering from coronary artery disease. It is a mechanical treatment where the patient’s long inflatable cuffs are wrapped both legs. The patient lies on the bed and his or her legs cuffs are repeatedly inflated and deflected with each heartbeat. The whole process is controlled by a computer that utilizes the patient’s electrocardiogram to initiate diastole and deflation. The inflation of patient’s cuffs happens sequentially, right from the lower part of the leg to the upper part, and in the process, the blood in your legs is pushed upwards to that heart.
Advantages of EECP
EECP is a very important procedure. It has the following benefits to your heart.
1. Increased blood flow
The milking action of EECP increases the rate of blood flow in the patient’s coronary arteries when we have diastole. Coronary arteries are unique arteries, unlike the other arteries, the flow of blood happens between each heartbeat, unlike during each heartbeat.
2. Reduces the work of the heart
During deflation, when the heart begins to beat, EECP Malaysia creates a vacuum suddenly in the arteries that work in reducing the work of your heart muscles. This makes the heart muscles won’t have to strain so much in pumping the blood.
3. Endothelia dysfunction
EECP is also speculated that it can significantly reduce endothelia dysfunction. It also reduces myocardial oxygen demand.
Disadvantages of EECP
To some extent, EECP can be uncomfortable for some people, but it is generally not painful.
EECP cannot be used to treat those people who aortic insufficiency or those people who have had cardiac catheterization recently.
