Build a box to collect your empty glue bottles and glue sticks. Need some inspiration? Check out our collection of box art, or see what other classrooms did with their boxes in our gallery.
Encourage your students to toss their empty glue bottles and sticks into the box. All bottles that are marked with a #1 or #2 recycling symbol are recyclable, but keep in mind that your Elmer's Glue Sticks will not be marked because their special plastic can only be recycled at designated facilities.
Clean your bottles and sticks the best you can with warm water (this is a great task for your students!).
When your collection box is full, there are two ways to return your empties:
Walmart®
Close the box, print the official Elmer's Glue Crew Recycling Program™ mailing label, and affix it to the outside of the box.
Bring the box to a Walmart® store (find the location closest to you here) on or after Earth Day on April 22, 2012, and give it to one of the Walmart People Greeters.
TerraCycle
Once you've collected at least 250 empties, put them into a reused box (about the size of a copy paper box).
Sign into your account at teracycle.net and click on "Get Mailing Labels" on the left side of the Elmer's Glue Crew Brigade page to print a pre-paid shipping label. Place the label on your box and take it to a UPS drop-off location
**Please note that there are a limited number of shipments. Once the limit has been reached, users will no longer be able to print free shipping labels to send in their materials. When this time comes, participants can still keep empty bottles and sticks from landfills by returning them to Walmart as part of the original Elmer's Glue Crew Recycling Program.
